Event Photography Volunteer Program (EPVP)
“Event Photography Volunteer Program/EPVP” is to provide SBJPG members multiple opportunities to photograph events as a professional event photographer. You might ask, “what if they cannot produce good usable images for whatever the purpose I needed these photos for?” Do not worry, you are covered. I will be there at your event* to oversee things as well as photograph your event. So you WILL get top notch event images, both fun and informational, of your party or anything you want us to document. I can deliver that to you and then some! I’d like to call it a “Hands-On Photo Shoot Workshop” with what our world is offering, Life as an Event. Are you going to have an event at your house, company, or anywhere for that matter which you’d like to photo-document for professional record and publication purposes, personal use, and/or as a gift? I will come out (or send a team) to cover your event as an Event Photography Workshop with SBJPG’s advanced shooters whom I think just need to build confidence in shooting events; thus the “Event Photography Volunteer Program”.
The volunteers (workshop participants) will not only experience an actual photo shoot as if they were on their own at the event site (working with other photographers), but I would also make myself available to show them the ropes. I will show them the “way of the event photographer” as well as share my knowledge of photographing anything.
How do you go about doing this with SBJPG? It’s as easy as juggling with two balls. Just become a SBJPG member (it’s FREE!) and send us an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) about your event. Give us the details of your event including location, time, dress code, number of guests, adult only or family event, stage issue, music-related, flash/non-flash, other photographers or videographers, etc. Also include a shot list (if you have any). When your event is approved, a service agreement will need to be signed by the both parties. We will then discuss the logistics of the event date and the timeline and such :)

Well, we thought we were done with SBIPG workshop when we finished Pacific Pride Foundation’s AIDS WALK 2010, but Therese noticed there was another event going on just up the hill: 5th Annual Classic Car Show. We had to go check it out.
Being a samba dancer for Santa Barbara Solstice Parade wasn’t enough for Nicole Lvoff who just released her debut album “Here’s That Rainy Day”, and the CD Release Party at Soho Restaurant last night was packed with her friends and family with a special vocal appearance by Paul Christian Nguyen (it was also his singing career debut, and yet another samba dancer!!) I had SBIPG workshop to go along with this party; practicing flash + ambient light combination shooting as well as learning how to deal with musicians and guests in a public events environment.
Yet another beautiful Saturday morning in Santa Barbara: a perfect day to shoot an event at the beach as SBIPG‘s event photography workshop. The subject (event): PACIFIC PRIDE FOUNDATION‘S AIDS WALK 2010. I used to shoot this event as a volunteer, but I combined with SBIPG workshop this year.
Images from Full Moon September – Harvest Moon
Yet another fabulous event Bread & Roses 2010 last Sunday at QAD Headquarter in Summerland, California. It was also SBIPG‘s hands-on workshop of “Event Photography” which was equally successful as the event itself. You guys had fun…uh, learned a lot, didn’t you boys?
Images from Block Party at the Funk Zone
Selected images from last night’s SBIPG Studio Session Series.
Today (9/16) was the bicentennial anniversary of Mexican independence and the centennial anniversary of the country’s revolution (September 16, 1810). The celebration was held at Casa Dolores in downtown Santa Barbara early this evening and was also a part of SBIPG shoot out!
SEPTEMBER 11 @11:00AM – 2:00PM - Yes I know, this is a super last minute notice for tomorrow Saturday September 11th. If anyone would like to join me for a little trip to Asia, please let me know. I will look for ya. Hai, Domo Arigato Mr. Robot.
<New Workshop 472146082510>
SEPTEMBER 23 @6:00PM - Yep, yet another full moon over Santa Barbara. Sunset is 6:54pm so we should be at location 6:00pm-ish, and standby for the Mister (or is it Ms.) Full Moon to show up. SB PIER is often good place to shoot, BUT if any of you know different places with kick-ass full moon rise & view, suggestions are all welcome. If not, good o’d SB Stearns Wharf or SBCC End Park overlooking SB Harbor. (9/23 SUNSET 6:54PM)

SEPTEMBER 18 @ 5:00PM – Block Party at the Funk Zone (Mason Street)
Stateside Magazine is putting on a block party at Mason Street in the funk zone by the murals on Sat. Sept 18 from 2:00pm-10:00pm. There will be music, miscellaneous entertainment, celebration of everything for everyone. Taking pix of (1) Murals and its Artist, (2) Musical Guests, (3) Other Entertainment, (4) General Public Party-Goers and (5) What else is there that look fun.
Couple of topics I want to cover this day will be “perspective control” (or rather ‘perspective manipulation’) to make whatever you are photographing look dynamite and get “wow” from viewers (or at least “veeeeery interesting”). Another topic is yes, the good o’l “Aperture and Shutter Speed, and What About ISO”. We will talk 15-30 minutes or so to talk about it, and then let’s put it to use and see if you get it. Even if you didn’t, don’t despair. We will do this again in next “Get To Know Your Camera” session. We should finish up with a cold one at near by Union AleBrewing Company.
PLEASE PRINT MODULES!!

Standard Jazz Concert – Flash+Ambient Photography
Okay, so it’s tomorrow night and know what you need with you? Your camera of course, and a fast lens (I prefer wide and fixed aperture, but if you have a wide to telephoto zoom lens that is FAST, then you’d be happy as well), and a tripod as an option. If you have a tripod, you could have fun with longer exposure to see what it does to your shot in combination with flash (off or on camera). So I will see you guys at Soho tomorrow night!
Please contact me if you ANY questions!!!

<UPDATE for 4th of July Celebration and Fireworks>
I just received a text message from our model saying, “I just made coolest pasties EVER!!!”. This is gonna be good.
<SHOOTING SCHEDULE> We will meet at the epicenter (launching spot of the fireworks) @5:00pm this afternoon, and we can; (1) make snap shots or (2) approach it in photojournalistic style. Approximately at 7:00pm, our model will show up for our photographic pleasure and shoot some and laugh some and wait for the fireworks @ 9:00pm. During that time, I will go over how-to on Fireworks (Night Photography). Bring your tripod and somehow rig it where you can carry it around on your back so that you have both arms available to do whatever. If you don’t have one, well then, I will show you how to make it happen without having one (tho not recommendable but works if you know what you are doing…type of thing) PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR CELL # TO ME for smooth/last minute hookup. – Kenji 637-0158
