Full Moon September 2012

September’s full moon fell on the last day of the month.  I was out far end of Goleta Beach with four of SBJPG members.  On this mild evening, there were people strolling down the beach, a family enjoying fishing, joggers and lover all having a good time!

Rising Opera Stars Performing Art

I can’t remember how many times I said “WOW” internally while I was listening to several young opera singers perform at the Granada Theater this afternoon.  It’s a part of OPERA SANTA BARBARA’s free concert at noon series.  Just simply amazing!!!  (Thank you Granada Theater and Opera Santa Barbara!)

This is the main theater inside of the Granada; however, we were gently directed to a smaller more intimate theater on 2nd floor for this afternoon’s performance.

 

Women’s Festivals 2012

サンタバーバラのWomen’s Festivals は今年で４回目の大会になりますが、SBJPG/Santa Barbara Japan Photography Group は過去２年間このイベントを撮影しました。２０１２年は金曜日しか参加できないのですが、また新しい友達との出会いを築きながら、昔の友達との再会を楽しむつもりです。

Promotional Images for an actress (SBJPG)

Shelby is ready to work in Hollywood.  Her agent wanted her to update her book/promo piece with few more “life style” images.  She had just returned from one of her table read in LA the night before the shoot, and showed up to our scheduled shooting site with a great attitude despite the fact we had our makeup artist cancellation just two hours before the shoot.  I kept my cool (sorta) and made few quick calls to see if anyone out there to help us with the makeup, and Shannon Loar-Coté from Blush and Lashes saved the day.  Thank you thank you and thank you once again, Shannon!!!

Drag in the Funk Zone!

When I saw a drag show for the first time ever at a local bar many many and many moons ago, it made a quite an impact on me.  She dressed like Madonna and lip-syncing to one of her song (now I can’t remember which song that was).  I knew she was a dude, but she looked soooo good and danced very well up on the stage that I had to go back stage after the show and tell her she was an excellent performer.  I think I was hoping to see Madonna-like person back there, but I found a little Mexican dude without his wig and makeup half off sitting at his makeup table and said to me “THANK YOU” with very low male voice (thus, lip-syncing). I was heart-broken right there right then.  I think it was my first time and the last time that I felt like I was watching a woman perform, not a drag queen.  SBJPG was there to photograph the event.

Drag in the Funk Zone was a drag show last weekend at THE PUB in a little artsy fartsy section called “Funk Zone” in Santa Barbara.

がっかりするべきか、まだまだいけるぞ〜か？

呪われたプロジェクトだあ〜！などとドラマチックに迫るほどの事でもないのだけど、このロケーションを撮影場所予定地とか考え始めてから既に１年位まだ予定地のまんまである。今度で４回目になるけど、またまた撮影日変更するはめになるかもしれん。I want the spit!

Business Publicity Session while Boxing…kinda

I was out there on one weekend doing a SBJPG workshop at a Boxing Gym, I had an opportunity to do a quick 30-minute head shot session for my friend, Kimi. She needed few good shots of her for her new business, or more like her new project.  It was no difference doing it there on location or in a studio environment as long as I had consistent lighting conditions; diffused, non directional, non specular, (sometimes called ‘glamour lighting’) and etc… The lighting; that’s not all it matters here but certainly matters A LOT.  Anyway, as soon as she showed up, I spent ten minutes setting up a portable studio/shooting area at in front of the gym, next to the parking lot. While SBJPG members were still photographing inside of the gym, I commenced shooting right there at a Kamikaze Photo Studio.  Several outfits, few shooting direction adjustments and 20 minutes later, we were done deal.
