SBJPG – Get To Know Your Camera – Manual Flash

It was two Wednesday ago we had another edition of Get-To-Know-Your-Camera, workshop on Manual Flash with basic photography. Coffee Cat was our regular destination for part one: THEORY.  We played with exposure control, and basic workflow.

PART 2 FLASH DEMO: After Coffee Cat we went down to a bar to try out our cameras and flashes. A friend of mine Rod’s band Stiff Pickle Orchestra was playing for the night.  Good times as usual.

Rod’s Stiff Pickle Orchestra with Tom

I like this shot with camera shake better than the one below with properly exposed image.  Rod and Tom from Stiff Pickle Orchestra, and SBJPG members, Bob, Marianne, Travis, Lynnie, Greg and PJC.

SBJPG – ALL ABOUT IMAGE EDITING 2 (AKA PHOTOSHOP)

Lynnie: why are you taking pictures of meeeee??

I am far from calling myself a photoshop power user (not that I want to be as such), but I have been doing alright with what I know for what I need to do. I have always had “just do it” approach with it like many other new things in my life, and it may not be the best way to do things but it sure has worked for me; however, after having this edition of IMAGE EDITING WORKSHOP (so-called PHOTOSHOP), I would probably feel better to help others establish their own digital imaging workflow. It is fun to play with photoshop, but understanding and creating (establishing) your own workflow is whole different thing, and probably the key to successful and efficient learning process of image editing.  SBJPG‘s next “Image Editing Workshop” will be repeat of this, as I plan to have similar materials for establishing one’s own workflow.

Downtown Santa Barbara, there’s a staircase with flavor of art deco that tickle my sense of bauhaus.  Every time I drive by there my eyes are like “schwing!!”, so I grabbed Lynn and Martin as soon as I met them at one of the room in the SB public main library.  I was excited to see the site with the light I wanted.                   photos by Martin.

Muy buena visita del pasado /

SBJPG – Get To Know Your Camera VIII “Manual Flash with Sunset” (update 1)

This edition of GET TO KNOW YOUR CAMERA was on “Manual Flash with Sunset” at SB’s famous Stern’s Wharf.  These were photographed over a month ago, but her purple hair color was so strong, and our Sunset was so weak, my images were not talking to me until I played with blue-tone, and then everything had started.

Straight forward original image was too blend looking and contained very low impact level, and I didn't want to work on them for over a month until the color blue did some trick.
